I read this book when I was in junior high. I still remember the first night after reading it; I was so scared that I asked to sleep in my parents' bedroom. It wasn't so much the ghosts and the haunting that scared me. They were spellbinding, no doubt, but I was more concerned that if I fell asleep, I would drift into the bizarre, enchanting worlds in Pu Songling's stories and never wake up again!

Pu was the master of suspense, erotica, and gripping drama!

Even though Strange Tales has been translated into multiple languages, most modern readers don't know about it or haven't read this seminal work in paranormal fiction. It's been my dream to introduce the Strange Tale universe to modern readers through a contemporary Western protagonist's point of view.

Hence, The Longing was born!
